John has represented owners in selling their companies in a wide range of industries.  He has been involved in M&A activities in manufacturing, flight simulation, printing, plastics, woodworking, store fixtures, foodservice equipment, and specialty publishing. As a former company owner himself, John specializes in representing owners who are new to the M&A process.  He focuses on understanding his client’s financial needs and personal objectives to deliver a transaction that exceeds his client’s expectations.

John has been an active dealmaker for over 10 years.  He spent the first 20 years of his career in operating leadership roles of companies with sales between $10 million and $100 million. John has been President & CEO of four operating companies, including his own company, a public company, and two portfolio companies owned by private equity investors. During this period, John bought and sold a number of companies as a principal in the transactions.

Since 2000, John has been a full-time investment banker with a focus on providing personalized service to private company owners who are interested in selling or recapitalizing their companies. He is particularly effective because he understands the owner’s history, perspective, needs, and objectives and he knows how buyers evaluate and value potential acquisitions.

John has served as a director of Butler Automatic, Inc., Coes Knife Company, and Cramer, Inc. (NASDAQ: CRMR)and he has served on the boards of Kansas City March of Dimes, Minnesota Association for Corporate Growth, and the Minneapolis Rowing Club. He is a founder and former President of Twin Cities Youth Rowing, an athletic program that draws high school athletes from more than 20 high schools in the Minneapolis – St. Paul area.

John served  four years of sea duty as a Naval Officer.  He is currently a frequent speaker to CEO forums and trade associations.
