Mark Klopfenstein, Managing Director of CFA Atlanta, has nearly 30 years of experience in business, investment banking, merchant banking, investing, public accounting, and entrepreneurship.
Prior to joining CFA, Mark founded and managed an Atlanta-based financial group that served as advisor in over 60 M&A transactions, across multiple sectors, with an aggregate value of over $2.7 billion, and as principal equity investor in control transactions with an aggregate value of over $200 million. Mark specializes in innovative solutions for various tax and financial inefficiencies in the sale of a business. His clients have included, among others, United Airlines, General Electric, and Gray Communications.
From 1985 to 1995, Mark specialized in structuring corporate transactions with Arthur Andersen. He served as Andersen’s Atlanta office representative on its firm-wide Corporate Transactions Team. He advised Allianz on various transaction structures including its $3.3 billion acquisition of Fireman’s Fund, Georgia-Pacific on its $4 billion acquisition of Great Northern Nekoosa and subsequent asset sales, Takata on numerous acquisitions and other projects, and multiple other large and small companies.
Consistent with this background, Mark has a special focus with CFA involving tax-advantaged structures, including but not limited to various applications involving Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs) in combination with other financial structures. These structures can be highly flexible and powerful in helping client realize their financial goals.
